This swift urbanization is leading to a dramatic surge in traffic, resulting in congestion, gridlock, and environmental challenges. The solution? An urban cable car system.
Shimla: Cable car network for the capital of Himachal Pradesh
In collaboration with Bernard Consult, the Bregenz-based company SALZMANN INGENIEURE was commissioned through a joint venture to plan a cable car network for the Indian city of Shimla.
Paris: The longest urban cable car in France
In the French capital, the first urban cable car will be constructed by 2025. The 4.5- kilometer-long cable car named “Câble C1“ will be implemented by the Austrian cable car manufacturer DOPPELMAYR.

Namur: Téléphérique de la Citadelle
Since opening in May 2021, the Namur citadel cable car immediately won over tourists. Thanks to its privilieged location in the heart of the Walloon capital, this new, orginal mode of transport offers a practical and spectacular route to the top of the citadel. Despite difficulties associated with health restrictions for the pandemic, which reduced the capacity from six passengers to two, the success was immediate.
HARARE: THE POTENTIAL OF URBAN CABLE CARS IN AFRICA
Which requirements and solution approaches exist for urban mobility in the global context? This is the question being examined by Matthias Nüßgen from the European Institute for Sustainable Transport (EURIST). Together with consulting company Cable Car Solutions, his team has developed a concept for an urban cable car network in Zimbabwe’s capital, Harare.
