Cable Car Project in Bonn: New Phase

The planned urban cable car in the German federal city of Bonn is gaining momentum: The previous municipal planner is currently handing over knowledge and documents to the consulting firm specializing in construction and infrastructure.

In May, the consulting firm Drees & Sommer SE, headquartered in Stuttgart, took over program management for the Bonn cable car project, covering general planning and project management services. Currently, the planner commissioned by the city of Bonn is handing over knowledge and documents to the consulting company specializing in construction, real estate, and infrastructure.

“We have already taken the opportunity to inspect the planned cable car route during a joint site visit. This allowed us to identify the specific features and challenges on-site and prepare for the next steps,” says Sebastian Beck, partner at Drees & Sommer SE.

“At the moment, all plans and documents are being reviewed and evaluated by us.” Sebastian Beck has been actively involved for many years in establishing urban cable cars in German cities. He contributed his expertise, for example, to the official guide Urban Cable Cars published by the Federal Ministry of Transport.

Next Steps

The project stakeholders are currently coordinating with public interest groups and authorities. At the same time, various preliminary assessments and planning services are being commissioned and carried out, including those related to nature conservation, soil and geology, wind, noise, and hydrology.

The schedule and budget are also being specified and adjusted during the ongoing handover process. This also applies to the standardized evaluation, which is being updated. After that, the focus will shift to the so-called functional tender, after which a cable car manufacturer can be commissioned.
