In most cases, there is a lack of space and funds to further expand urban road and rail networks.<\/p>\n<p>Where expansion has occurred, traffic volumes typically increase to fill the new capacity. Many public transportation projects currently under consideration are costly to build and maintain, would be disruptive, and require significant time for implementation.<\/p>\n<h3>Study: Ten cable cars make sense<\/h3>\n<p>A strategic analysis by Abley, a specialized planning and transportation consultancy in New Zealand, found that \u201caerial cableways can address several of the most significant transportation problems in New Zealand cities\u201c and that \u201ccompared to other modes of surface transport, the overall benefits of cableways are significant.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Abley identified twenty sites across New Zealand in six cities where there is a need for this form of public transportation. The <strong>first route<\/strong> runs through Auckland\u2018s key corridor, filling a gap in the rapid transit network:<\/p>\n<p>The cable car connects the airport with the Puhinui railway station, the Manukau Central Business District (CBD), and the Botany neighborhood. Rail and bus lines are connected via the four stations. The travel time, at 41 minutes, is significantly shorter than current bus (56) and car (53) times<em> (see infobox 1).<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"imageframe-align-center\"><span class=\" fusion-imageframe imageframe-none imageframe-1 hover-type-none\"><img width=\"385\" image_height=\"384\" image_id=\"52688\" title=\"Auckland\" src=\"https:\/\/www.simagazin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Auckland.png\" class=\"img-responsive wp-image-52688\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.simagazin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Auckland-200x199.png 200w, https:\/\/www.simagazin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Auckland.png 385w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 385px\" \/><\/span><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-3\"><p>The <strong>second cable car lin<\/strong>e connects the airport with the rapid transit in Onehunga (both rail and planned Mass Rapid Transit MRT), linking the Mangere employment hub via two stations.<\/p>\n<p>The cable car crosses the Manukau Harbor and passes beneath the airport\u2018s planned runway in a tunnel. Here too, the travel time is considerably less than current bus (44) and car (33) times, at 26 minutes<em> (see infobox 2).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>third facility<\/strong> extends the planned Northwestern Busway to Te Atat\u016b and Henderson in the other direction. Two stations would serve the Te Atat\u016b neighborhood, while one serves the Henderson service center.<\/p>\n<p>The cable car is integrated with rail and bus services, crossing a motorway. Passengers spend 10 minutes traveling instead of the current 35 minutes (by bus) or 16 minutes (by car)<em> (see infobox 3).<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><style type=\"text\/css\">.fusion-builder-row .fusion-layout-column.gradient-column-6 .fusion-column-wrapper:before {content: \"\";
