Urban cable cars are usually equipped with an integrated evacuation concept in which the cabins are brought into the station in the event of an emergency. However, operators should also rely on human recovery teams for safety. These require cable carriages to get from the supports to the cabins. The Swiss recovery specialist IMMOOS has recently expanded its product range for this purpose.

The city of Bochum, a large city in the Ruhr metropolitan region, has a large shopping centre, the Ruhrpark, without good connections to the city centre. A group of voters wants to change this with an urban cable car.

The independent city in the Ruhr region has been considering traffic-calming measures for some time. Hendrik Wüst, Prime Minister of North-Rhine Westphalia now brings the urban cable car transport system into the discussion.

In Regensburg (Germany) the use of urban cable cars is a university topic. Together with a group of students, two professors have developed a cable car plan for the city. This proposal was publicly debated in March.

Cable car systems have long ceased to be limited only to winter operation or even only to the mountains. These efficient systems are also used increasingly frequently in urban areas. Nonetheless, integration of the station building into a shopping centre, such as in Kish (Iran), is something very special.
