Bordeaux relies on cable car

The French city of Bordeaux is planning an urban cable car to make crossing the Garonne River easier in the future.

France already has a reputation as a land of urban cable cars. Bordeaux now joins Toulouse, Grenoble, Brest and the plans for Paris as another cable car project.

The aim of the project is to directly connect the districts of Lormont in the east of the Garonne and Baclan in the west of the river. The seven-minute ride will provide a view of Bordeaux from a new perspective thanks to glass cabins.

Jean Touzeau, the mayor of Lormont, expects the cable car to become a fast means of transport in the daily lives of local residents and an attractive landmark for tourists.

Depending on the route, the investment volume will be between 53 and 73 million euros – the public consultation is still open until 13 February.
