Federal Transport Minister makes a strong case for urban cable cars

The German Federal Minister for Digital Affairs and Transport Volker Wissing is patron of the next Cable Car World. The international mobility fair on urban cable cars with accompanying congress will take place for the second time at Messe Essen from 4 to 5 June 2024. The focus of Cable Car World is on local public transport on the plus-one level.

Volker Wissing sees opportunities for the mobility transition in the Plus-One Level

The German Federal Ministry of Transport (BMDV) supports the expansion of sustainable mobility and sees great potential in urban cable cars. In November 2022, it published the guide “Urban Cable Cars in Public Transport” in German and English as a guide for municipalities or local transport companies.

The Cable Car World, which premiered in June 2022, was also a decisive source of information for the realization of urban cable car projects: Several feasibility studies were commissioned during the trade fair.

Urban cable cars as a great opportunity for sustainable mobility

Federal Minister of Transport, Volker Wissing, sees urban cable cars as a significant opportunity for sustainable mobility in urban areas:

Examples in densely populated regions of the world show that cable cars are a reliable, sustainable, and quiet means of transport. As the Federal Minister for Digital and Transport, I am actively advocating for this important topic of the future to gain more visibility in Germany. The Cable Car World in Essen is the appropriate platform for this.

As an international marketplace in the heart of Europe, the trade fair brings together all the expertise and contacts needed for the implementation of cable car projects in urban areas – from the idea to ongoing operation.

I look forward to the next edition making another decisive contribution to urban mobility design, and I gladly take on the patronage of this innovative event format.

The Cable Car World is aimed at public transport companies, city planners, sustainability and mobility officers from federal, state, city, and municipal levels, as well as other local decision-makers at the national and international levels.

In Hall 8 of the Essen trade fair, on June 4th and 5th, 2024, trade visitors will find an overview of all relevant manufacturers, service providers, and suppliers related to cable cars.

A Mobility Lab explains the advantages of this mode of transport in urban areas and invites experts for discussions, while the Science Wall sheds light on current research and knowledge. Additionally, the accompanying two-day congress offers the opportunity to deepen knowledge through high-profile lectures.
