Georgia: Three New Cable Cars for Tbilisi?
The Georgian capital, Tbilisi, plans to expand its public transport network with three new cable car routes. This was confirmed by Vice Mayor Giorgi Tkemaladze during the presentation of the city’s transport and urban development policy, as reported by the portal Business Media.
The new cable car routes are intended to serve as public transport and to reduce the load on buses and minibuses.
“Cable cars have been part of our city for a long time. In recent years, we have renovated them. This time, they are intended to serve as public transport. The three new routes will help residents connect more easily. In addition, the construction of these corridors will reduce pressure on buses and minibuses,” Tkemaladze said.
The routes under consideration are:

Isani – Metromsheni – Vazisubani

Sarajishvili – Zgvisubani

Samgori – Vazisubani
Details regarding the timelines or financing for the projects are have not been disclosed.

has been operating in Tbilisi since 2012.

Already three cable cars in the city
Since 2012, an 8-seater gondola from LEITNER has been operating in the city center, running up to the medieval Narikala Fortress, one of the most popular excursion destinations and photo spots in the Georgian capital.
In total, Tbilisi operates three cable cars and a funicular, which primarily serve as tourist attractions.
