Ropeway network for Puebla
Ropeway manufacturer Doppelmayr has been selected by the Government of the State of Puebla through an international public tender to develop the city’s new ropeway network.
The project will be implemented in Puebla, Mexico’s fourth-largest city, and forms part of a socially driven national mobility strategy promoted by the Government of Mexico under the leadership of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. The initiative aims to enhance urban mobility and improve quality of life for residents across the metropolitan area.
The network will include nine stations and four lines, with a total length of 13.61 kilometers. It will help improve urban connectivity, reduce travel times, and provide a safe, accessible, and efficient mobility alternative for thousands of residents.
Puebla ropeway network
- Line 1: CIS – Parque Juárez (2.61 km, 3 stations, 20 towers)
- Line 2: Parque Juárez – Xonaca (4.96 km, 4 stations, 36 towers)
- Line 3: Xonaca – Cerro Amalucan (4.75 km, 3 stations, 31 towers)
- Line 4: Parque Biblioteca – Unidad Deportiva (1.29 km, 2 stations, 9 towers)

A scalable system
Puebla’s ropeway network will initially include 154 cabins, operating at a speed of 6 m/s (21.6 km/h), allowing comfortable journeys and operational efficiency. The initial capacity of 1,000 passengers per hour per direction is expandable to 2,500 to meet rising mobility needs
In addition, the ropeway network will help to reduce congestion and ensures continuous service. It is designed to strengthen mobility in the area by connecting key points across the city, from Parque Juárez, through the RUTA public transport system, to Parque Biblioteca, and ultimately Cerro Amalucan.
Barrier-free mobility for residents
By providing seamless and direct connections that easily overcome congested roads, the ropeway network will make daily commuting easier for thousands of passengers. Together, the four lines will reduce travel times by more than 50%, improving mobility for this city of 1.7 million inhabitants. Users will travel in OMEGA V cabins, recognized for their modern and comfortable design. Each cabin is fully accessible and provides capacity for 10 seated passengers.
“This project is yet another example of Doppelmayr’s commitment to developing and delivering high-value, sustainable, safe, and innovative solutions to improve mobility in the country. Puebla is a rapidly growing city, and now considers ropeways an essential part to improve mobility for its residents,” said Konstantinos Panagiotou, Managing Director of Doppelmayr Mexico.
Strong partnership
In Mexico, Doppelmayr is supporting efforts to make mobility more accessible for everyone through rope propelled mobility solutions – fully aligned with the social priorities of the current federal government.
Among these projects are Lines 1 and 3 of Cablebús, as well as the recently awarded Line 5 in Mexico City, in addition to the Uruapan system, currently under construction in the state of Michoacán.
Through these developments, the company has consolidated an extensive urban ropeway transport infrastructure in the country, soon exceeding a total length of 50 kilometers, transforming mobility for more than 350,000 daily users and positioning ropeways as an effective solution for areas with high geographic complexity.
