Bartholet presents Ropetaxi

True to the motto “Together we shape the mobility of tomorrow”, BARTHOLET Maschinenbau AG from Flums presented the world’s first ROPETAXI at this year’s InnoTrans in the application area of cable cars, offering new possibilities in urban transport development with specific advantages.

With this special type of operation of a connectable single-cable circulating track, BARTHOLET facilitates operation on demand as well as running on branching route networks with the option of direct arrival at the destination with no transfers for passengers.

The Swiss manufacturer achieves this with self-driving gondolas inside the stations, by means of separate, battery-powered eMotion drives in the terminal area.

Before boarding, passengers can select the desired destination at the touch of a button on the destination column, making it possible to enjoy an unimpeded journey directly to the destination, with no connections.

The integrated and intelligent allocation of people via a display controls boarding of the stationary gondolas inside the stations.

Following the “Greenstyle” philosophy, the stations are integrated into the urban environment.

Elegant Design

One highlight of the ROPETAXI for use in urban cable car transport is the panoramic gondola design by Porsche Design Studio. The elegant and timeless gondola offers a panoramic view with an impressive sense of space and a high level of travel comfort.

The facilities in the gondolas can be customised directly by the operator, so that they satisfy the respective individual requirements and conditions of an area.
Coupled with the separation of the access area from the transit point for other gondolas, the clear guidance system in the stations transforms boarding into a relaxed, stress-free experience.

The gondolas stand completely still for boarding and alighting, so that entry is possible with no problems. The access area therefore offers a high level of accessibility and almost unlimited potential comfort.

The ROPETAXI was presented at the leading international trade fair for transport technology.

Even lower energy consumption

Owing to its long service life and lower CO2 emissions, the cable car is already one of the world’s most environmentally friendly modes of transport. Moreover, the new ROPETAXI technology stands out for having lower energy consumption compared with other cable car systems.

As the gondolas move only when passengers are using the system, unnecessary, energy-consuming, empty runs can be avoided. This also massively reduces operating and maintenance costs.

Greenstyle philosophy

The new, innovative mobility concept of the ROPETAXI is a further commitment to the “Greenstyle” philosophy, demonstrating the green future of traffic and transport, including for projects in the densely built-up urban environment, with a high level of comfort and maximum environmental sustainability.

With sustainable mobility, even in the case of difficult topography, whole districts can be accessed successfully, including with direct connections to busy public transport hubs such as suburban or underground railway stations.

Every day, all over the world, large cities are drowning in travel chaos. Cable cars alone cannot solve the problem, but urban cable car concepts are advancing worldwide.

With clever use, cable cars offer a variety of advantages over conventional means of local transport. They do not compete with but rather sensibly complement road and rail, and they can be integrated relatively easily into the existing local public transport.

For future transport policy master plans of cities, the use of cable cars should certainly be investigated.
