Kloten: Citizens Demand Cable Car

The route of the Glattalbahn in Kloten (Switzerland) is set to be expanded. A group, comprised of residents of Altbach, is against the extension of the tram line and instead advocates for an urban cable car.

Specifically, the interest group IG Pro Altbach expressed concerns about the planned course of the tram along the Altbach, which could have a negative impact on habitats for birds, insects, and other animals.

Furthermore, an increase in traffic congestion in the city center due to railway barriers is also argued against. The interest group is convinced that a cable car could better connect the urban area.

According to IG, the Glattal Transport Company has become entrenched in the extension instead of considering the well-functioning alternative, the cable car.

As reported by “20min.ch,” these allegations are rejected by the transport company. Regarding traffic, the VBG (Verkehrsbetriebe Glattal) has concluded that the extension of the tram is the best solution for the quality of life in the community.

In addition, targeted new habitats for animals and plants would be created as compensation. However, the interest group is not satisfied with this response.
