10th edition much larger
The number of exhibitors has grown by 17 percent, the exhibition grounds area by some 60 percent – the 10th edition of ALPITEC China 2018 was clearly much larger than last year’s exhibition.
79 exhibitors and brands, 4,500 square meters of exhibition grounds, and, together with the sports exhibition ISPO Beijing, around 30,000 visitors – the 10th edition of the winter technology exhibition ALPITEC China presented itself clearly much larger than in the previous year. Compared with 2017, the exhibition featured 60 percent more exhibitors and brands, companies from eleven countries presented a full range of mountain and winter technologies. Companies from Austria, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Slovenia, Sweden, the USA and Switzerland needed 60 percent more space than in 2017. The four-day exhibition held at the China National Convention Center in Beijing has thus established itself as the leading platform for mountain and winter technologies in the Asia-Pacific region over the last ten years.
Ski regions in China: new figures
As follows from the new White Book 2017, the only data collection analyzing and describing the ski industry in China, in preparation for the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing, winter sports receive special attention in China and, being a matter of crucial importance to the government, have been the recipients of much financial support even though the two-digit growth rates from the previous years could not be quite maintained. From 2016 to 2017, 57 new resorts were developed, corresponding to 8.82% growth. There are altogether 703 ski resorts that recorded 17.5 million visitors (+15.89%) in 2017. To compare: during the same period, the number of visitors in Switzerland was approx. 23 million. Of the 703 existing resorts in China, 145 currently have one or more chair-lifts. Though this corresponds to an increase of 16%, it is still very few compared to European standards. ts
