Czech Republic: Ski resort upgrades

New cable car, new slopes, new identity: The Czech ski resort of Špindlerův Mlýn is connecting its Medvědín and Svatý Petr areas directly for the first time. Initially, the new link will only be accessible in one direction – the full bidirectional connection will follow in 2027. Additional innovations are also being introduced.

For the season opening on December 12, the Czech ski resort of Špindlerův Mlýn is putting the first part of its new connection between Medvědín and Svatý Petr into operation, as reported by Sachsen-News, among others.

According to the operators, the new route initially allows for one-way travel from Medvědín to Svatý Petr without needing a ski bus or car. The opposite direction is scheduled to be completed for the 2027/2028 season.

Cable car, bridges, and snowmaking

The hub of the project is the site of the former P1 parking lot at the Labská dam, where a central terminal is being built. From here, the new 1,400-meter-long 6-seater chairlift, Přehradní, immediately transports up to 2,000 people per hour toward Hromovka.

The descent from Medvědín to the terminal takes place via the newly created Lesní slope. The infrastructure also includes two new bridges over state road II/295 and over the Elbe River, as well as a modernized snowmaking system with water intake from the reservoir.

Around 50 million euros investment

From 2027, a 10-seater gondola to Medvědín will complete the system.

The total investment volume amounts to 1.2 billion Czech korunas (around 49.1 million euros), almost half of which is being deployed in the current year.

With the final expansion, the ski slope offering will grow from 27 to nearly 40 kilometers.

In line with the modernization, the ski resort and municipal administration also presented a new joint brand identity.
