Europe’s southernmost ski resort, Spain’s Sierra Nevada, invested around €19 million for the upcoming winter season. The funds will go towards modernizing lifts, facilities, and snowmaking systems, according to Snowplaza.

Part of a strategic modernization

The €19 million is part of a major investment plan underway since 2019, with total spending exceeding €100 million.

According to Cetursa, the operator of the ski resort, the modernization is crucial for the continued growth of the Sierra Nevada ski region.

Snowplaza quotes Rocío Díaz, Director of Cetursa: “The resort never stands still. Even in summer, we are already working towards the winter season.”

This season’s highlights at Sierra Nevada:

  • Two additional conveyor lifts in Borreguiles
  • The reopening of the renovated restaurant
  • Upgraded snowmaking facilities

Key Upgrades

Throughout the summer and autumn, modernization works took place at Sierra Nevada. Key projects included:

  • Renovation of restaurant Nevasol: The old restaurant from 1983 was completely rebuilt, featuring a new terrace designed to provide protection from the wind.
  • Two additional conveyor lifts in Borreguiles: Two new conveyor lifts were installed in the beginner area, bringing the total number to five. This created a safe, enclosed space for beginners and ski schools.
  • Improvement of snowmaking: The Zahareña water reservoir, a crucial source for snow cannons, was fully renovated to ensure proper waterproofing. New snow cannons were also installed.
  • New snow groomers enable more precise snow management.

The Sierra Nevada ski resort is located in the south of Spain, in Andalusia. The mountains here reach heights of over 3,400 meters, with more than 100 km of pistes available, extending up to 3,300 meters.
