Baghdad plans an urban cable car

In Baghdad, an urban cable car is to promote tourism and urban development. In addition to a cable car, investments are also being made in hotels and restaurants for the city.

Iraq has invited bids for the construction of a cable car network in the capital Baghdad as well as hotels and restaurants, the official newspaper Alsabah reported.

In doing so, the newspaper quoted Culture and Tourism Minister Ahmed Al-Badrani as saying that such projects would be carried out in partnership with the private sector and are intended to boost tourism in Baghdad and other areas of Iraq.

“We are establishing partnerships with the private sector to implement some of these projects. Other projects would be launched by the government,” he said.

Badrani said the ministry had requested bids from foreign companies for the designs and execution of the cable car project in Baghdad, as well as for the construction of five- and six-star hotels in the capital and other cities.

He pointed out that the cable car project was being offered on an investment basis and was intended to expand commercial activity in the capital and encourage companies and investors to embark on new tourism and entertainment projects.
