Peru: New cable car set to open soon

In Lima, a new alternative means of transport is currently under construction, which is also intended to serve as a new tourist attraction. What is known about the project?

The urban cable car, which is set to connect the promenade in the Miraflores district of Lima, Peru, with Playa Redondo beach on the Costa Verde, is in its final phase of completion. The stations have already been built, and the system is currently being tested to ensure safe operation.

According to local media reports, the cable car could begin operations in about six to eight weeks.

The project is being positioned as an alternative means of transport and is also expected – thanks to its coastal location – to become a new tourist attraction.

The cost of a round trip is estimated at around 15 soles, or roughly 8 soles per single ride, which corresponds to about €3.50 for a return ticket or approximately €1.80 per trip.

The system will cover a distance of approximately 310 meters, with a travel time of around three minutes.

Each cabin will accommodate up to 15 passengers. They will be fully accessible and equipped with racks for bicycles and surfboards. The transport of pets is also planned.

The project is the first urban aerial transport system of its kind in Lima. It also includes improvements to the surrounding infrastructure.
