Crowdfunding saves ski resort

The Hochwang ski resort in the Swiss Alps was on the brink of extinction. Lacking the money for the summer overhaul, the upcoming winter season was in danger of being cancelled. But a joint crowdfunding effort saved the ski resort.

As we reported in our article Ski Resort Hochwang fears for its future, Hochwang was in quite a crisis. Now there is good news, the search for money was successful.

350,000 swiss francs (337,000 euros) were raised with the help of crowdfunding – saving the future of the ski resort.

“This is an incredibly big relief. It would have been terrible if the sports lifts had had to close. The fact that the money came together so easily is great. The people here want this lift, you can tell,” Rolf Bucher, chairman of the board of directors of Sportbahnen Hochwang, told FM1 Today.

The reason for the financial difficulties? The fixed costs are high and the ski area is small. However, the Hochwang ski resort is confident.  Currently, new ideas and measures are being worked out to be able to stand on their own two feet.

The help of the people through crowdfunding clearly shows how connected they are to the small ski resort. As a result, there is a happy ending after all.
