Thought project cable car

The student association at Thompson Rivers University wants to get more people excited about the topic of local planning. The idea of a cable car between two neighbourhoods in Kamloops should now bring the desired engagement.

The City of Kamloops (in Canada) is currently creating a new plan for the McGill Corridor, which includes the university, and is asking for public input.

In an article published on the Students’ Association website, TRU students, staff and faculty are encouraged to dream big and also think through a cable car as a transportation system.

The goal of the student association is clear: “We want to come up with cool ideas that could make this neighbourhood really interesting. It was admittedly a bit of an outlandish idea, but we wanted to find out how this could affect our city. It’s almost like a thought experiment.” So far, the only way to reach the university from the North Shore district is via several buses. These then have to travel over the frequently congested Overlanders Bridge on top of that. A cable car could offer students a much faster and less stressful way to get there and back.
