Cable car network for Park City (Utah)

One central pillar of the 2020 Initiative in Utah is the innovation of the transport system. In January, the city commissioned the Snow Engineering Group to conduct a feasibility study for a gondola system in which four key locations would be connected by a cable-drawn transport solution.

The reason for this step was the desire of many residents to relieve the roads.

The study identified the Old Town Transportation Center, Deer Valley Snow Park, Park City Mountain Resort and the yet-to-be-constructed art and culture district at the corner of Kearns Boulevard and Bonanza Drive as locations for potential future gondola stations.

The study has cost the city around 20,000 US dollars and is intended to take an abstract look at future transport options in Park City. City Manager Matt Dias said that the city council had to give approval before city employees could the examine the project further.

The study estimated the potential future costs of the project at a little over 64 million US dollars, with an additional 3.5 million US dollars required for the annual operating and maintenance costs.
