Urban ropeway opened in Uruapan
A strategic, state-funded investment in urban mobility
With a public investment of MXN $3,200 million (ca. 157 million EUR), the Teleférico Uruapan is a strategic, fully state-funded project designed to provide a modern, efficient and affordable public transport system.
Uruapan, home to 357,000 residents and generating 8.5% of Michoacán’s GDP, now benefits from an integrated mobility solution that supports both the city’s social and economic development goals.

Fast, reliable connections across the city
Spanning eight kilometers from east to west, the urban ropeway reduces travel times to just 27 minutes, cutting typical travel times by half compared to bus rides. Furthermore, it helps to reduce long-standing challenges related to road congestion and urban segregation. The ropeway system features six strategically located stations connecting the city’s main economic, healthcare, and public service hubs.

Stations:
- Hospital Regional
- Libramiento Aeropuerto
- Boulevard Industrial
- Palacio Municipal
- Centro
- Parque Nacional
High-capacity, accessible public transport
The new system operates with 91 state-of-the-art OMEGA V cabins and has a capacity of up to 1,500 passengers per hour per direction, enabling it to transport approximately 54,000 people per day. To ensure broad accessibility, the fare has been set at MXN $11 (0.54 EUR), positioning the system as an efficient, accessible, and inclusive public transportation solution for all citizens.

Driving social and environmental transformation
Beyond improving mobility, the Teleférico Uruapan is already contributing to the regeneration of public spaces and strengthening community life throughout the city.
- Community spaces: Each station incorporates public services such as an interactive museum, sports facilities, and municipal service areas, transforming stations into vibrant neighborhood hubs.
- Strengthening local commerce: The ropeway boosts local economic activity through the development of a new market in the western part of the city, creating new opportunities for small businesses and local producers.
- Safety and sustainability: The implementation of Safe Pathways (Senderos Seguros) ensures protected pedestrian access to the stations, while the ropeway’s 100% electric drive eliminates local emissions, contributing to improved air quality and a healthier urban environment in Uruapan.

Beyond infrastructure, this system represents new opportunities, time savings, and a better quality of life for those who use it every day. This project was developed under the highest technical, safety, and environmental standards, reflecting our commitment to sustainable, inclusive mobility designed for everyone.”
