Public transport revolution in Nuremberg?

The idea of the FDP Nuremberg seems to some to be a revolution in mobility. Because here a cable car was proposed for the traffic problem in Nuremberg and this idea is making headlines.

Under the name Noris Sky Metro, the Nuremberg FDP wants to bring about a rethink in public transport. The proposal comes from city councillor Ümit Sormaz. He sees an urban cable car not only as a new transport system in urban areas, but also as a powerful, efficient, cheap and sustainable transport system with a lot of experience. His planned pilot project would be ideal for students in particular.

Again and again, voices are raised that see the cable car as unsuitable for German cities. There are too few mountains and enough successfully introduced transport systems here. Sormaz has little sympathy for these concerns, because for him the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

A route for the first connection of the “Noris Sky Metro” has already been identified. From the new Technical University of Nuremberg (on Münchener Straße), the route is to lead to the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (Regensburger Straße).

Whether a cable car would really make sense for the expansion of the city’s transport network will probably be discussed more intensively after this initiative.
