Staten Island: The time is now

A shared gondola between Peninsula City and Staten Island has been discussed in the past.

Five years ago, the Staten Island Economic Development Corporation and the city of Bayonne examined the feasibility of a shared cable car. At that time, the project was rejected, but the level of suffering as a result of the increasing traffic has since increased sharply.

Planning and construction costs are between three and ten million dollars per mile for an underground railway, or 36 million dollars per mile for a light railway.

The gondola is therefore significantly cheaper than its competitors. The journey by Bayonne gondola would take around thirteen minutes end-to-end. 163 gondolas, each carrying ten people and leaving every twelve seconds, would transport up to 3,000 people per hour.
