Floriade 2022 is growing – not only on the ground but also in the air

For visitors to the popular, internationally renowned flower and horticultural show, Floriade Expo 2022, a diverse showground is currently being created in Almere (Netherlands). The issue of sustainability in cities will play a particular role here , as is already evident from the motto, “Growing Green Cities”.

Horticultural shows are known for sprawling grounds with beautifully arranged flowers and nowadays even ropeways. Back in 1964, the international horticultural show in Vienna relied on this mode of transport, and Floriade 2022 is also counting on the high-performance transport option.

“The ropeway fits perfectly with theme of Growing Green Cities, as it is a sustainable mode of transport. For example, with its electric motor located in the stations, it produces no emissions or particulates during operation and it is quiet.

With only two stations and seven supports, the ropeway takes up very little space,” Floriade PR Manger Evelyn Rietveld reports. For Floriade Chief Operating Officer Sven Stimac too, only a ropeway is worth considering for such an event: “The ropeway will be an attraction for Floriade guests.

It will allow them to cross the 60-hectare site and the A6 motorway in the shortest time, at the same time as quietly enjoying the landscape architecture. This mode of transport also means that we can distribute the flow of visitors optimally on the Floriade site.”

In spring 2021, the A6 will be closed briefly for the ropeway. However, crossing the A6 is sure to be a memorable experience when travelling on the finished ropeway.

Growing green cities

From 14th April to 9th October 2022, Almere will be the setting for the Floriade international horticultural show.

About the ropeway

Visitors to Floriade Expo 2022 can float over the showground at a height of 35 metres. With a length of 850 metres, a ropeway will connect the southern and northern sections of the Floriade park. During the 5-minute journey, visitors can enjoy the fantastic view of the unique small garden show.

The arboretum with flowers, plants, shrubs and flower meadows as well as all the other attractions can therefore be admired from an exceptional perspective. Furthermore, as one of the highlights of Floriade, the ropeway will be a unique opportunity to experience the potential of urban ropeways.

It was especially important to the organiser that all guests should be able to use the ropeway. Both ropeway stations are designed at ground level and will therefore also be easily accessible for older people, visitors with wheelchairs or pushchairs… Furthermore, the boarding and alighting areas in the stations will be located separately, to guarantee an optimal flow of passengers.
