Line 2 of the cable car in Santo Domingo to start operation soon

Line 1 of Santo Domingo's cable car has been in operation since May 2018; Line 2, which will include four additional stations and carry an estimated 4,500 additional passengers, will open later this month.

Line 2 of Santo Domingo’s cable car is scheduled to begin operation this month. The detachable monocable gondola (MDG) will be the second cable car to serve as a public transportation system in the Dominican Republic. The first line was opened in 2017.

Line 1 in Santo Domingo has already been in operation since 2018.

Shortening the travel time

Line 2 will have four stations and carry 4,500 passengers per hour in 12-passenger cabins. Travel time will be reduced from 1.5 hours to 15 minutes.

Guided tours will be offered between March and April to help users become familiar with the urban cable car. During this time, local staff will also be trained in the operation and maintenance of the system.
