India’s longest river ropeway opened

The Guwahati-North Guwahati Cable Car was officially opened on Monday by Assam's Minister of Finance, Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The ride in the approximately two-kilometer-long cable car takes about seven minutes and the cabins offer space for 32 people. Due to the COVID-19 regulations, it has been decided to initially only allow 15 passengers per cabin.

Currently, the cable car will operate from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 58 CCTV cameras have reportedly been installed to monitor the cable car service around the clock.

The entire project was built at an estimated cost of 560 million Indian rupees (approximately 6 million euros). The project was launched in 2006 as part of the Brahmaputra river bank beautification project. Much of the work was finally completed in 2019.
